Speaking as a girl who has had her share of skin issues throughout the past few years, I know just how hard it can be to find skin care products that actually work! After countless times of listening to dermatologist after dermatologist say “Well, this one might work for you,” I found myself frustrated beyond belief. Luckily, my acne has subsided and I am able to focus on minor issues such as the occasional pimple or scars from past acne. But if you find yourself with moderate to severe acne, as I once did, the best thing that you can do is go to a dermatologist and get a professional’s opinion. Unfortunately, I am not a dermatologist, nor do I know what would work best for your skin type, but I can tell you what has been working for me over the past few years. On a more upbeat note, I would love to share with you my favorite skin care products that I swear have made my life (and skin care routine) so much easier!
Cleanser- After going on a harsh skin treatment, I was told to use a sensitive cleanser by the brand “Cetaphil,” and I have been hooked ever since! This jumbo face wash is wonderfully gentle, but will give your skin a thorough clean.
Moisturizer- I always follow up my face wash with a light moisturizer. My favorite is the Moisturizing Lotion (for All Skin Types) also by “Cetaphil.” I use this twice a day because it is lightweight, hydrating, and never clogs my pores!
Pimple Treatment- Next is a little product I (and the rest of the world) like to call Aczone. It is a dermatologist prescribed spot on treatment for pimples. Unfortunately, if you have a full face of acne, this will give you minimal help (believe me, I was once in your shoes.) But if you find yourself with a couple of breakouts every now and then, this topical treatment will zap those zits!
Exfoliator- Twice a week, I like to give my face a good scrub with an exfoliator such as the St. Ives Apricot scrub. It adds the perfect amount of harshness to my skin since I use a very sensitive cleanser for the rest of the week. This powerful scrub will brush away dead skin, leaving your face feeling soft and renewed.
Face Masks- Along with my facial scrub, I use a face mask twice a week. My current favorites are Queen Helene’s Mint Julep Masque (found at CVS and Rite Aid) and The Body Shop’s Tea Tree Face Mask (found at The Body Shop and Ulta). These are both soothing masks that will cool your skin and pull out dirt and impurities from your clogged pores.
I really hope this might have helped you in some way! If you’re suffering from acne, stay positive. I know Your gorgeous skin is on its way!
