Because the cool weather is now among us, I’m sure your trips to Starbucks have significantly multiplied. And although you might be breaking out the cash more than necessary, a Starbucks addiction is really nothing to be ashamed of, as long as you’re doing it the right way. The holiday season is filled with lots of delicious treats to indulge in. If you don’t believe us, just try out one of our favorite sweets of the season- our famous pumpkin cupcakes

And since the months of November and December consist of sugar high after sugar high, a cup of coffee or tea really shouldn’t be what pops your zipper (leave the turkey + pumpkin pie for that one). So, in order to avoid unnecessary calories, here are some healthier alternatives for your favorite drinks at Starbucks.

1. Fraps- A definite favorite of ours, even during the winter months. They’re basically just a creamy milkshake with coffee in it, so what’s not to love? Oh yeah, the calories. A 16 oz. caramel frappuccino has 410 calories in it, which is fine for an ‘every now and then’ treat. But if you’re slurping this up while grandma’s baking her famous cookies, I’m sure your calories will double (maybe even triple) within your next sitting. As a healthier alternative, go for the 16 oz. caramel frappuccino light. (You can also make any other favor ‘light’.) A light frap isn’t as filling, but still remains equally as sweet and delightful! With only 140 calories, you can afford to sneak a couple of grandma’s cookies as well!

2. Mocha machines– All you mocha lovers out there might not be aware of the crazy calories you’re packin’ away at just one trip to Starbucks, so here are the unsettling facts you’ve been trying to avoid. A 16 oz. peppermint white chocolate mocha is 500 calories, which is astonishing because if you just downgrade it to a 16 oz. skinny mocha, you’ll shave off 400 calories! This 100 calorie drink is sweet, and a tad bitter for a ”hardcore” coffee feel 😉

3. Caramel Chaos– This right here is my go to drink. Every morning, without fail, I head over to my on-campus Starbucks and pick up a caramel macchiato, hot or cold. A 16 oz. macchiato is 240 calories, which is not all that bad in comparison to the drinks above, but a 16 oz. skinny version is only 140 calories (and the taste is not even noticeably different)!

We hope this guide will help you make healthier choices at Starbucks, especially during the holiday months. And with all these extra calories you’ll be saving, don’t forget to indulge a little extra at your Thanksgiving feast 😉
