I’m sure you’ve seen them, near and far, some people “pulling them off” much better than others- OVER-ALLS. They’re an obvious trend for the summer time if you’ve been to any place that requires clothing. They’re cool, chic, and casual all in one. But is this trend just the latest fad that will be over before we can even cherish its arrival? Or is it here to stay? Over-alls were widely popular in the 70’s, along with bell bottom jeans, and many other “fashion don’ts” of this day. So why are they making a come back now? Well, I like to believe that style is all about perception, and of course, how you rock what you’re wearing. So, just like everything else related to fashion, over-alls can be seen as a “wanna-be” or a “saint,” depending on how they are worn. I wish I could tell you the perfect way to have everyone gushing, but to be honest, there really isn’t one- there are many! It’s important to stick to your own personal style, but I wanted to give you a couple guidelines that may help. And no, you don’t need to have survived the disco age to rock this look- but it can never hurt 😉
1.Show a little skin, but please, don’t go over board. Keep it classy. Crop tops and bralettes are the best way to expose a little bit while still keeping your look tasteful and interesting. Usually, the cutout of the over-alls will leave a slight peak of your bare stomach, but not enough to make you look like you forgot to get fully dressed this morning. So please, keep it that way. Some girls think that throwing away their bra for this look will create a fashion statement, and in many ways, it will, but I’m not so sure it will be the statement you’re looking for.
2. Accessorize wisely– Because over-alls can be quite intense all on their own, it won’t be necessary to throw on pounds of jewelry. In this situation, it’s safe to say that less is more- Adding a simple watch, a delicate necklace, and a few rings will probably be your best bet.
3. Throw your own personal style into the outfit- Nobody worships an outfit that looks like the rest of them, so add some of your personality into the standard over-all look. For me, ankle booties and a sleek Zac Posen bag are perfect because they dress up an over all casual look and makes me feel a little more chic. But for you, throwing on some of your favorite high top converse that expose a peak of youthful lace socks at the rim might be a masterpiece all on its own. Get creative! There’s nothing better than an outfit with an attitude.
I hope this helped you in making your over-all debut. And if this quirky, yet risky trend isn’t quite your style, don’t fret! You can check out some of our other favorite trends here:
But remember- style isn’t just about looking “cute” or having people admire your fashion choices, its about being a little bold and daring, and most of all, confident every step of the way.
